This Week’s #todunspotlight is on Adeola Onafuwa, Content Director at leanwords. Adeola lives in Canada’s capital and is invested and focused on growth opportunities for Africans in the diaspora. This might be a long read but it is worth it.
What is it like living in the Capital? Ottawa is special because it directly exposes me to Canadian issues, especially diverse communities and the challenges they experience, even within different parts of the country. This exposure, if you are able to efficiently leverage it has provided me with immense career opportunities and a growing network that is invaluable. How do you stay engaged? I am very involved with grassroots organizations and initiatives. Our generation is a very active one and I leverage my network capacity in adding value and resourcefulness to this vibrancy. The foundation to the productivity is being genuinely curious about my city, reaching out and opening myself to being accessible and continuously leveraging the strengths my growing network to engage and add value to new circles, projects or initiatives. Professionally, we call it lobbying.
Why is leanwords important to the African Diaspora? Ultimately, leanwords is important because we appreciate the value of recognizing African immigrants in Canada. Africans in the Diaspora emanate from diverse groups. We value this and our efforts are focused on creating and facilitating opportunities to respect and include African immigrant communities in the larger Canadian dialogue.
